Strategic Human Resource Development

This series of courses examines the critical role of human resource management in achieving an organization's strategic objectives. This concentration is excellent preparation for students who want to start a business, work in the public or private sectors, join a not-for-profit or pursue graduate education.

Note: A concentration can be used in different ways depending on a student’s major. Students in the business major pair two concentrations from different disciplines. The concentrations are also available to students in other majors.

Emphasis is on skills and techniques for developing an integrated approach towards human resource functions aligned with the organization’s strategy. Topics in these courses include human resource theories and principles, and practical skills including planning, recruiting, selecting, developing, training, compensating and retaining employees in a diverse workforce. Students learn and practice skills that apply to the changing world, including thinking like an entrepreneur, communicating with confidence, energizing a team toward high performance and making informed decisions.
