Service isn't something Saints talk about – it's something Saints do. Proudly. It's part of our Franciscan tradition and part of what makes Siena so different. And so awesome. Picture yourself feeding the hungry in Philadelphia, caring for the homeless in Boston or building houses in Jamaica. You can even expect to work on projects in your classes—or as part of an internship or research study—that have a lasting impact on our communities. St. Francis believed leaders should be servants. Saints hold that close to their hearts, and our alumni prove how valuable those servant-leadership qualities are in the workplace, at home and throughout their lives.

FRANCISCAN CENTER FOR SERVICE & ADVOCACY

Saint Francis of Assisi said, “We have been called to heal wounds, to unite what has fallen apart, and to bring home those who have lost their way.” With this in mind, the FCSA offers students everything from Franciscan service trips to advocacy opportunities, one-on-one mentoring roles to post-graduate service experiences.

ACADEMIC COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT

Through various programs with nonprofit partners in the Capital Region and beyond, students who participate in Siena’s Center for Academic Community Engagement (ACE) enhance what they learn in the classroom by going out into the world and serving hands-on.

SISTER THEA BOWMAN CENTER FOR WOMEN

With the goal of promoting social justice, gender equality and the development of women, the Sister Thea Bowman Center for Women runs annual and ongoing events including One Billion Rising, Anti-Human Trafficking Month and Grow Girls Mentoring Pen-Pal Program.
