Mental Health Medical Leaves:

For some students, their mental health concerns may increase to a point at which they are unable to  attend to their academics and/or remain safe on campus. Situations such as these may necessitate a medical leave.  Depending on the unique situation of each student and treatment provider recommendations, the length of medical leaves can vary but are initiated only for absences of 5 or more days. Please note the Counseling Center does not provide excused absences for less than 5 days.

If you think you may need a medical leave for mental health reasons

  • Contact the Director of The Counseling Center, Nicole Muller LCSW-R to discuss your situation.
  • Review Siena College, Medical Leave of Absence Policy Excerpt from Siena Life Student Handbook.

Please note that medical Leaves for physical health reasons are managed by the Director of Health Services, Carrie Hogan MS, ANP-C.

If you and your treatment provider determine a medical leave is necessary, certain documentation is needed.  For your convenience, key forms can be accessed directly through the links below.
