What is the housing assignment process for new students

All new residential students are required to complete the New Student Housing Application. This application becomes available every April (for new students starting in the fall semester) and in November (for new students starting in the spring semester). New students will be able to select building preferences, but we cannot guarantee placement in a specific building. The earlier you complete your New Student Housing Application, the more likely you are to be placed in your preferred building. Housing placements will be emailed to all new students in late July or early August. For more information on new student housing, please click here

HOW do returning students pick their housing for next year?

Students choose their housing for the next academic year every spring semester starting in February and running through March. All students are issued a housing priority number based on the number of years they have been a full-time, matriculated college student. For more information on returning student housing selection, please click here.

What are the Residence hall opening  & CLosing dates during the academic year?

The residence halls close around all major break periods. These dates are posted annually to allow families time to make travel arrangements in advance to accommodate the opening and closing of the residence halls. These dates are posted on the Office of Community Living's Important Housing Dates webpage.

What is a room condition report?

At the start of every semester, students have the ability to complete a Room Condition Report (RCR) in their online housing portal to itemize any pre-existing damages and overall conditions in their room. Students should thoroughly review their RCR and note any discrepancies. If discrepancies are noted, a member of the Community Living staff will reach out to reinspect the space and update the RCR accordingly. RCRs are what the College uses for damage billing purposes at the end of the academic year.

What is a community assistant?

Community Assistants (CAs), often called RAs at other colleges & universities, are returning students who serve as peer mentors, event planners, and overall support and mentorship for a wing or floor of residential students. CAs can help with roommate issues, getting involved on campus, making connections with other students, identifying academic and social support services, and helping connect with the buildings Friar in Residence. Students interested in learning more about becoming a CA, including the application process and timeline, can click here.

WHAT is the residency requirement?

As a small, private, Franciscan & Catholic, liberal arts institution, Siena recognizes the importance of learning both inside and outside the classroom. As such, students who are accepted as residential students and begin living on campus are required to live on campus for their entire time as an undergraduate student at Siena. For questions about this policy, please email housing@siena.edu.

What Should/Shouldn't we bring to campus?

In order to avoid bringing items to campus that are prohibited and are violations of the College's code of conduct, we have created a recommended packing list to help students and families identify what they can bring and what they should leave at home.

WHAT is an increased occupancy triple room?

As Siena College remains a popular choice for new students, so to does the demand for on-campus housing. In order to accommodate these requests, each year, we do place some students into increased occupancy triple rooms. These are traditional double occupancy rooms that are reconfigured to be able to accommodate three students. Our goal is to de-triple these rooms as soon as possible, and we are usually able to offer all students the opportunity to de-triple prior to the start of the spring semester. Students who are assigned to an increased occupancy triple room receive a $500 rebate on their student account.

How is placement in an increased occupancy triple determined?

Placement in increased occupancy triple rooms is based on the date a new student completes both their new student housing application AND their new student housing deposit. Both of these items will launch in early April as part of the College's New Student Checklist of required items that all students must complete.
