School of Business, Finance, Career and Internship Center, Internships

Abby Stinton's '24 dad, Keith Stinton '90, is a managing director for Goldman Sachs Ayco, but that's not why Abby's pursuing a career in the same office. Her dad (and mom) also went to Siena, but that's not why she chose to be a Saint. In fact, initially she didn't choose Siena at all.

"I went to Loyola University Maryland my first two years. I wanted my own story, but that wasn't my place. Obviously I always knew Siena has a great accounting program. I wasn't pressured into it but the shoe fit."

She was never pressured into finance either. Originally, Abby planned to pursue teaching, but a love of numbers and a desire to make a difference through financial literacy led Abby full circle to her dad's alma mater and employer.

In the summer of 2022, Abby cleared three rounds of interviews to land an internship in the trust advisory division. She returned this past summer to intern in the executive financial management office. That's her dad's division.

"He definitely inspired me. He's provided a great life for me and my sisters and having a chance to work in his office has been exciting. We sometimes ate lunch together, but during my internship we weren't allowed to work on the same accounts."

Midway through Abby's second eight-week internship this summer she applied for a full-time position in the executive financial management office. She didn't hear back when she expected and so assumed she didn't get the job. Then one morning during an 8:00 a.m. workout at the gym

"My phone rang and when I saw the number pop up on my phone, I knew it was Goldman Sachs Ayco. I sprinted out of the gym and I think it's the fastest I've ever run. I was out of breath when I took the call."

It was a job offer. Abby will begin her career as an analyst after graduation, but she won't be working alongside her dad. Keith must have figured it's the next generation's turn. He'll be retiring in December.

"He was able to really help me build my network there. I know so many people now. It won't be scary when I start. The environment there, it's the most ideal workplace. I'm excited to be client-facing. I want to play an important role in the success of our clients' lives."

First, Abby will need to pass a series of tests that will consume her first few months on the job. Before that, she'll finish her education (which will help with her tests). There's also a relief in knowing there's a job already waiting for her.

"I feel a sense of security. I can focus on my studies now, and I can't wait to get started next year."
