Research is the name of the game at college—and it involves a lot more than Googling stuff or going to the library. Students at Siena are making discoveries, inventing new things, solving problems, presenting their research at conferences and getting published. But what does research really look like? If you’re like most high school students, the concept of research is still a little unclear. That’s why we’re using our blog to unmask what research really means—and how it can seriously shape our world.

When you’re researching colleges, it’s important to look beyond all the information you see on postcards and on websites. All of that is critical, of course, but to get the full story, listen to recent alumni. Fresh off the graduation stage, they’re the ones who have nothing to lose in telling the truth and a lot of perspective on their experiences now that it’s time for them to move forward in the working world.

Hailing from Sharon, Massachusetts, Veda just finished her freshman year at Siena, and to say this biology major kept busy is an understatement. Treasurer of the Inspire club, dancer on the Bollywood team, member of the Bus Stop Club and several other organizations, Veda is spending part of this summer in our Roger Bacon building working on a mission that could quite literally change lives.

If an admissions interview becomes part of your college application process, it’s OK to feel a little nervous—but you should be excited, too!
