Br. Ed Coughlin, O.F.M., Ph.D., was planning a long vacation, the first in several years, when he got the call from the chairman of Siena’s board of trustees. Would Br. Ed be willing to shelve his sabbatical and serve as Siena’s interim president? His immediate predecessor, Fr. Kevin Mullen, O.F.M., had just been elected to lead Siena’s founding institution, the Franciscan friars of Holy Name Province, and would be leaving for his new assignment on August 3, 2014. Without missing a beat and with characteristic generosity, Br. Ed said yes.
Until a more permanent replacement for Fr. Kevin is identified, it will be Br. Ed’s job to manage the day-to-day operations of Siena, to help the College achieve its $50 million comprehensive campaign goal, to keep Siena on track with its strategic plan and to constantly remind everyone in the Siena community why we are here: our students!
The 67 year-old psychologist, professor, writer, editor, and university administrator is well known among his Franciscan brothers for hard work, clear thinking, common sense, an infectious laugh and a willingness to serve his Franciscan brothers in any way he can—from cooking a meal to running a college!
