The Siena College Chapter of The National Society of Leadership and Success (NSLS) provides a leadership program that helps Saints achieve personal growth, career success, and empowers them to have a positive impact in their communities. This program is built for Saints of all majors and career goals.

As part of the 2022-2027 Siena College Strategic Plan: Leading the Way, the President, the Board of Trustees, and the College are committed to developing a Siena Franciscan Leadership Center. This partnership with NSLS is the first step to making this goal a reality on campus for our Saints. 

With 750 chapters, including Marist College, St. Bonaventure, Iona University, RPI and many more;  and 1,759,516 members nationwide, NSLS is the nation's largest leadership society. NSLS provides opportunities to over $400,000 in scholarships, an online job bank, and access to 100 nationally renowned NSLS speaker broadcasts.

G.M. (JERRY) DEFRANCISCO ’68, DPS, LHD '18

Siena College NSLS Co-Advisor

Jerry DeFrancisco ’68 returned to his alma mater in 2014, as Distinguished Civic Leader in Residence.  He has served as Distinguished Executive in Residence for the Franciscan Mission Office since 2019, assisting the VP for Mission with strategic planning, and as a consultant, mentor and resource to students and staff. As part of Siena’s 2022-2027 Strategic Plan, Jerry has been tasked with designing and implementing a Center for Franciscan Leadership at Siena. He is a professional consultant, whose career spans over 40 years in for-profit business, nonprofits, consulting, and academia, serving in senior leadership positions in a wide variety of assignments.

As a graduate from the class of 2020 Zach continued his education at Siena by completing a masters of business administration in the fall of 2021, while also working as the Executive Assistant to the President. As part of the 2022-2027 Strategic Plan: Leading the Way, he was promoted to Associate Director for Strategy, Communications and Experience. His new role works directly with many departments around campus to ensure all students — past, present and future — have the best experience on campus. In addition to his everyday roles, he was recruited to help co-advise the National Society of Leadership and Success chapter on campus.

Is the nsls legitimate?

Yes, the NSLS is a legitimate honor society with over 700 chapters and more than 1.5 million members nationwide. 

  • The NSLS maintains university-established criteria that best serves to recognize a distinguished group of their students. Nationally, less than 20% of the campus population at our 700+ colleges and universities receive an invitation.
  • The NSLS is accredited through Cognia, which is recognized as a reliable authority concerning the quality of education or training offered by the institutions of higher education or higher education programs.
  • The NSLS's courses have been reviewed and recommended for credit reciprocity by both ACE and NCCRS.
  • The NSLS meets the highest standards of verified social and environmental performance, public transparency and legal accountability to purpose through its certification as a B Corp.
  • The NSLS is registered with and maintains an A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau.
  • The NSLS requires a one-time fee for members to join and gain access to all of its benefits.
  • The NSLS works closely with successful thought leaders to provide members with valuable content every semester. 

Why was I invited to join the Siena College Chapter of NSLS?

Nomination criteria is based on GPA and/or leadership potential. Nominations are only awarded to a small percentage of Siena students. 

How much is membership to The NSLS?

NSLS members pay a one-time fee of $95 when applying to join the organization. The fee includes all membership benefits and partner discounts. Membership does not expire or need renewal — it is a lifetime membership.
