FOR TENURE-TRACK FACULTY

The evaluation will include a classroom visitation assessment and a valuation of the tenure-track faculty member's progress toward tenure and promotion.

  • To be completed once per semester by the Department Head.
  • To be completed once per academic year by the Dean. If the dean, associate dean and faculty member are in the same department, see Faculty Handbook section III.B.2-b.
  • Section VII of the classroom observation form must be completed for all tenure-track faculty. This section does not pertain to non-tenure track faculty.
  • The classroom observation must be conducted before the end of the semester in which the observation is conducted. The Classroom Observation Form must be completed and signed by the evaluator. 
  • The written evaluation will be presented to the faculty member who must sign the form. The faculty member may include a separate statement to the department head, dean and VPAA if there is disagreement with the assessment. 
  • The faculty member, the evaluator and the dean should keep a copy of the signed observation form.
  • The signed document is due to the Vice President's office by the end of the semester in which the observation is conducted. The evaluation is maintained in the faculty member's personnel file.

For Full-Time Contingent Faculty

As a requirement of the Articles XVII of the Collective Bargaining Agreement between Siena College and SEIU, the following evaluation process will be followed for Full-time Contingent Faculty.

  • To be completed at least once each academic year by the Dean or departmental personnel (CBA XVII.B).
  • When conducting the annual formal classroom observation/evaluation that is required under the CBA, the College evaluator will give advance notice to the faculty member being observed. The College maintains the discretion to conduct other evaluations without advance notice.
  • The classroom observation must be conducted before the end of the academic year during which the faculty member is teaching. The Classroom Observation Form must be completed and signed by the evaluator. Section VII of the form is not to be completed for contingent faculty.
  • The form, Evaluation of Contingent Full-time and Part-time Faculty, must also be completed as part of the evaluation, and signed by the evaluator.
  • The completed evaluation forms will be presented to the faculty member who must sign the evaluation forms. The faculty member may submit a response to the evaluation which will be kept in the personnel file with the evaluation.
  • The faculty member, the evaluator and the dean should keep a copy of the signed observation forms. 
  • The signed document is due to the VPAA's office before the end of the semester in which the observation is conducted. The evaluations are maintained in the faculty member's personnel file.

FOR ADJUNCTS:

As a requirement of the Articles XVII of the Collective Bargaining Agreement between Siena College and SEIU, the following evaluation process will be followed for adjunct faculty.

Frequency for Non-Core Adjuncts: Evaluation is to be completed at least once per year, prior to being offered and accepting Core Adjunct status.

Frequency for Core Adjuncts: Evaluation is to be completed twice during each three-year period, the College will review the core adjunct faculty member's performance and determine whether to offer another three-year core adjunct contract. This review will be based upon:

  1. Evaluations performed pursuant to Article XVII,
  2. Students' evaluations,
  3. Meeting of Core Adjunct and the dean, at the option of the Core Adjunct.

Evaluation Process for Core Adjuncts and Non-Core Adjuncts (CBA XVII.B)

  • Adjunct Faculty members will be evaluated by the dean or departmental personnel.
