Each summer, hundreds of young people from the Capital Region gather at Siena College to enjoy a variety of camp experiences, make new friends, and learn new skills while having fun. Many of our camps are directed by full-time Siena faculty members who wish to share their expertise and love for teaching with our campers. Drawing with Java Programming

Discover the fun and power of being able to program! In this camp, you'll write programs that create interesting, personalized drawings while learning the basics of Java. Topics include classes, objects, methods, variables, selection, and looping. No prior Java programming experience needed. This camp is a great head start for anyone planning to take an AP computer science course.

Raspberry Pi

The Raspberry Pi is a credit card-sized computer that costs between $5 and $35. It's available anywhere in the world, and can function as a proper desktop computer or be used to build smart devices. In this class you learn the Linux operating system, Python programming language, how to use the GPIO inputs and outputs to control lights and sounds, a program called Motion for video capture and recording, and more with this inexpensive Linux computer.

Curious about what's inside a computer? In this class you'll get hands-on experience refurbishing a computer to bring home. You'll make repairs, wipe hard drives, install open source software and learn about open source program and apps by selecting your own projects. Through a video game, you'll learn about digital media types, external computer accessories, internet functionality and much more.

Robotics

From crime fighting to medicine to growing our food, robots can make our lives safer and healthier. Robots can also be very entertaining! In this camp, you'll have the opportunity to build and program robots that solve interesting and fun problems. This camp is great for students who enjoy hands-on activities and have no robotics or programming experience.

Video Game Design

This is your opportunity to design and develop your own video game! Learn advanced techniques in game design using programs such as Gamemaker Studio or Construct 2, the industry-leading game engines. At the end of the week, you'll have a thorough working knowledge of the software and game logic.

Electronics Camp

Do you like to work with your hands to build things? Are you interested in computers, robotics, technology, or engineering? In this camp, you'll do many interesting hands-on experiments to learn how different parts of an electronic circuit work. You'll also build many useful electronic gadgets such as counters, alarms, decision makers, and number generators. You can use some or all of these components in a game or other application you choose and design.

Escape Room Challenge

Do you enjoy a challenge? Do you think you can outsmart your friends? Participants of this camp will need to be clever, resourceful and strategic. Just like the wildly popular escape rooms, you'll be tasked with solving puzzles, cracking codes and deciphering clues to ‘escape’ the room. In addition to becoming an escape artist you'll get a chance to show off your creativity by designing an interactive room. It will be the perfect opportunity to strengthen problem solving, team building, and analytical thinking skills.
