Academics, Siena in the News, Student Life

An attorney with legal experience at nearly every Capital Region college has been named chief of staff at Siena College.

Charles F. Carletta, Sr. J.D. of Troy will report directly to Br. F. Edward Coughlin, O.F.M., Ph.D., president of Siena.

“We are pleased to welcome Chuck Carletta to Siena’s cabinet,” said Br. Ed. “His background and experience made it clear he would be the best fit for Siena. He will serve a valuable role in advancing the mission of Siena, both strategically and operationally.”

Carletta comes to the College from Albany Medical Center, where he was a senior associate legal counsel. He was previously secretary of the institute and general counsel for Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute from 2000 to 2016. Before that, as a principal attorney with Pattison, Sampson, Ginsberg & Griffin, P.C. of Troy, he served as outside general counsel for RPI, The Sage Colleges, Albany College of Pharmacy (now Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences) and Hudson Valley Community College, in addition to serving as outside special counsel for others.

The author of more than 50 articles pertaining to college administration, and the recipient of several awards in the field, Carletta has taught graduate students at RPI and St. Rose, as well as higher education professionals throughout the United States.

He has served for many years as a trustee at La Salle Institute in Troy and currently serves as its secretary. He also serves on the boards of the United Way of the Greater Capital Region, the Center for Economic Growth, and is an active veteran of the U.S. Air Force.

Carletta holds a J.D. from Albany Law School and a B.A. from Manhattan College.
