Academics, Siena in the News, Student Life

For his involvement with a huge range of activities at Siena, Travis Brodbeck ’17 G’18 has been named National Collegian of the Year by the business fraternity Delta Sigma Pi.

Brodbeck received the honor “for exemplifying the values and ideals of the fraternity” through his campus and chapter work.

If there is an executive position with Siena’s Delta Sigma Pi chapter, Brodbeck has held it: president, senior vice president, hazing prevention week chair, St. Jude's Walk committee co-chair, Dress for Success fashion show committee chair and more. He currently serves as the Northeastern provincial professional development chair, as well as district director for the Binghamton University chapter.

He was presented with the award at the Northeast provincial conference in Boston in February. He will now join the fraternity’s national board of directors for a two-year term, where he plans to help further their strategic priorities, focusing on member engagement and member education.

“This is a well-deserved award in recognition of the efforts that Travis has given over the years to make Delta Sigma Pi a vibrant fraternity on the Siena campus,” said Dr. Arindam Mandal, associate professor of economics and a co-leader of Siena’s chapter. “It is reflective of his leadership skills and his passion for the organization.”

The Delta Sigma Pi chapter at Siena consists of nearly 100 School of Business students who are recognized as leaders in professional development and community service.

This is not Brodbeck’s first time earning honors from this fraternity. He has previously been Siena’s chapter Collegian of the Year; the Niagara Region COY; and the Northeast provincial COY.

He is the first national winner from the fraternity’s Niagara region, which includes Siena, the University at Buffalo, Binghamton University, Rochester Institute of Technology, Syracuse University, University at Albany and Cornell University.

"I never would have imagined when I joined as a Siena freshman in the fall of 2013 that I could learn so much from Delta Sigma Pi,” said Brodbeck. “Thanks to this fraternity, I have been able practice leadership, network across the nation, and gain real world experience. Looking back, I can’t imagine my college experience without Delta Sigma Pi."

Brodbeck received his B.S. in accounting from Siena in 2017, and will receive his M.S. in accounting this May.

He is currently interning as a data analyst at the Siena College Research Institute, is a regional fellow with Fair Trade Campaigns, and is continuing research on homelessness started with TeamBILD through the College’s Center for Undergraduate Research and Creative Activity and Academic Community Engagement.

Brodbeck has also served as a resident assistant, the Residence Hall Association executive vice president of operations, was a part of the Environmental Club, and served as a staff editor for The Promethean. He recently interned with New York Business Development Corporation.
