Emma Snizek ’25 wanted to create a new event on campus that would help connect Siena with the community. The result was the College’s first-ever Women-Owned Business Fair, which was held March 2 to welcome local female entrepreneurs to make business contacts and inspire Saints.

“I’ve never seen anything like this on campus and I thought it would be great to offer it at Siena,” said Snizek. “I hope people gained a sense of inspiration from these business owners, by feeling empowered to pursue their dreams.”

She worked with the Sr. Thea Bowman Center for Women to plan an event that would celebrate Women's History Month, support local women entrepreneurs, and inspire students to pursue their own entrepreneurial interests. Vendors included life coaches, health care providers, jewelers, potters, bakers and more. A panel discussion featuring several of the entrepreneurs was held toward the end so attendees could hear about what it takes to start and maintain a business.

“Through diligent work and planning, we met our goals and so much more,” said Donna Bradbury, director of the Center for Women. “The fair was fun for students and community members who attended and also created an atmosphere conducive to networking for the vendors, who were able to advertise and sell their products and services, as well as interact with other women entrepreneurs.”

Melanie Osborn-Smith ’24 assisted with planning the business fair, and was grateful for the opportunity to celebrate Women's History Month and support local businesses.

“I hope the business owners were able to network and gain a sense of support within the community,” said Osborn-Smith. “For students and campus visitors, I hope they were able to enjoy their time, understand the importance of supporting small businesses, and recognize that despite it being difficult, starting a small business is possible.”
