Siena's Black Student Union organized several events this month celebrating Black history, including a dinner with Black culture on the menu.

Taste of Black Culture was both a culinary and cultural experience. The Black Student Union served up foods significant to many Black Americans for generations. A Jamaican restaurant, for example, provided fried dumplings and jerk chicken, while a BBQ restaurant cooked up pulled pork sliders, baked beans, and coleslaw. Jovon Linton '26 helped to organize the dinner party, as well as other events throughout February.

"We took it upon ourselves to try and create a month full of events for two reasons: one, we wanted to celebrate Black History Month; and two, we want to hopefully bring awareness to BSU."

The Black Student Union also hosted an Alumni Social Hour which connected students with Black Siena alumni, who shared their experiences and offered advice over dinner. Moddie Linnen, assistant dean of students, was in attendance.

"The BSU Alumni Social was an excellent event for fostering a sense of community among alumni and current students. It created a platform where alumni could connect with students over shared experiences and offer insightful advice about excelling both academically and socially at Siena. Holding this event during Black History Month underscored its inclusivity, as alumni and students from diverse backgrounds were able to come together. This provided an opportunity to learn, appreciate, and engage in critical dialogues as a campus community."

BSU Black History Month programming will conclude on Friday, March 1 with a fashion and performance by nationally renowned DJ HB Monte. Past and present fashion trends inspired by Black culture will be on display in the MAC from 7-10 p.m. All community members are invited.
