Mission Statement


Inspired by the legacy of Saint Francis’ encounter with Sultan Malik al-Kamil, the Damietta Cross-Cultural Center upholds the Franciscan mission by building a community strengthened through diversity. Rooted in person-centered Franciscan value, the Center highlights the uniqueness of every individual, through lived experience and perspectives.

The Center creates a safe space and uplifts all the Siena community members; students, faculty, admin and staff.  It fosters intentional visibility of  unique identities and social justice while cultivating compassionate leadership through special events and experiential training  that prepare students for success in a global society.

Goals and Objectives


1.  educational Programing & Events

  • Expand knowledge and develop/expand on existing events that highlight the  person-centered franciscan value

  • The Siena community will develop and apply skills to advocate for all

2.Training to develop skills for INTERDISCIPLINARY practice

  • Community members will strengthen key skills such as conflict resolution, emotional intelligence, and perspective-taking.

  •  Collaborate  with the siena community to create a shared language that fosters intentional spaces for diverse perspectives to be shared and respected.

3.  Global Learning 

  • Community members  will demonstrate the ability to recognize societal, global  and institutional injustices.

  • Community members will learn the core Franciscan value-Social Justice.

  • Encouraging commitment to addressing social injustices by participating in relevant service and advocacy opportunities.
