sUPPORT FOR ACADEMIC ADVISORS

Study abroad is a phenomenal opportunity for college students today. It encourages academic curiosity, professional development, and personal growth. We are here to support any questions academic advisors may have about advisees who want to study abroad! This Resource Document for Academic Advisors provides a detailed overview of study abroad, including recommendations for coursework that students should save for their study abroad program and important notes on the course equivalency and credit transfer process.

If you would like to encourage your advisee to consider study abroad opportunities, the following questions can be a great starting point!

  • Have you considered studying abroad? If yes, why? If no, what might be holding you back?
  • How do you think study abroad would impact or influence your understanding of your major? What could a global experience add to your degree?
  • Have you met with the study abroad office or attended any of their events?
  • What are you doing now to prepare for life after college? What experiential learning opportunities at Siena are your interested in?

Collaboration on travel courses

The Center for International Programs highly values the input of Siena's talented faculty and staff. We look forward to collaborating with and supporting those members of the faculty/staff who are interested in leading international travel courses and service trips, or making connections with partners for virtual educational opportunities.

In accordance with the Standards of Good Practice for Short-Term Education Abroad Programs established by The Forum on Education Abroad, we seek to facilitate the development and delivery of short-term international study courses that uphold, and are appropriate to, the mission, objectives, and purpose of Siena College.

For full information on proposing and running a travel course and to get a copy of our guidelines for short-term travel seminars, please contact the Center for International Programs at international@siena.edu or (518) 786-5047. We look forward to working with you!
