The Writing Mentor Program is for YOU!
The Writing Mentor Program has been an integral part of the Siena Writing Center since its formation under former director Anne Godson-Glynn in 2020.
The Writing Mentor Program is designed to offer consistent, weekly support with the same tutor for the entire semester. Starting in Spring 2026 we are offering the option to meet every week OR every other week as part of the program.
Folks who have been enrolled in the Writing Mentor Program have shared that mentors help “bridge gaps” in their writing skills, act as a “skilled and kind mentor,” and provide considerable guidance on how to develop their writing practice. They have also shared that they have developed skills like organizing, developing ideas, writing in Academic English as speakers and writers of other languages (ESOL), learning and practicing skills for writing in their disciplines/major of study, understanding their writing process, communicating clearly/concisely, using sentence structure and punctuation as tools, and reducing stress/anxiety during writing assignments.
Since 2020, we have served over 100 individual Siena community members who represent a variety of majors, interests, pursuits, backgrounds, cultures, and home languages.
Many of the folks we have supported have been recommended by faculty and other student service providers on campus (Academic Success Center, Athletics, Center for International Programs, MacDonnell Career & Internship Center, Health Promotion, and Student Life). Others have found their way to us during First Year Seminar or other communication/writing intensive courses, and many of them have continued to work with their mentor throughout their Siena career.
We have undergraduate and professional tutors who support students in the Writing Mentor Program. We match you based on your shared availability with tutors who are part of the Writing Mentor Program, unless you indicate that you would like to work with a specific tutor as your mentor.
If you have questions, email, and one of our staff members will get back to you. Or, you can come by the Fr. Ben Kuhn House and ask to speak about the Writing Mentor Program.
