Dear Siena Community,

The New York State Board of Regents has certified our request to amend Siena’s charter. We will complete our transition this summer, and when our Saints return in the fall, we will officially welcome them to Siena University.

On September 18, the entire community is invited to celebrate this historic moment. Please Save the Date for an event unlike any other in our institution’s history, as we honor our liberal arts and Franciscan heritage and boldly embrace our future.

Over the next several weeks and months, we’ll make the necessary updates and complete a transformation that truly began years ago. The name Siena University is more reflective of who we have become, and it’s a powerful signal about where we are going. We won’t change because we are a university; we are going to change what it means to be a university.

We have already added graduate and professional programs, expanded research and partnerships, invested in state-of-the-art facilities — all while continuing to deliver life-changing student experiences rooted in our Franciscan values and Liberal Arts tradition. That’s the difference. That’s what makes Siena University distinct from other universities, and that difference is massive. Let’s own it, and let’s celebrate it.

On September 18, we’ll begin with a community procession into the UHY Center at 4:00 p.m., followed by a special ceremony honoring our core values and reaffirming our mission. Then, we’ll have a whole lot of fun. There will be food and games, an academic celebration, and an unforgettable show at dusk.

Any employee who wishes to process in regalia is invited to do so. If you do not have your own,  regalia can be rented through the Siena Bookstore. Orders must be placed no later than August 1 by emailing rcalhoun@siena.edu. Siena will cover the cost of the rentals.

The September 18 event is generations in the making, and I can’t wait for us to celebrate together.

Peace and all good,
Chuck
