Dear Siena Community,
I believe any student who desires the Education for a Lifetime should have access to it, but access alone isn’t enough. We must also commit to equity of experience — ensuring that every Saint can fully engage in the opportunities that define a Siena education, regardless of financial circumstances.
Today, a great friend of Siena and Siena Board Member Emerita is helping to make that possible.
Susan Dake H’21 and Stewart’s Shops have established the Stewart’s and Dake Family Opportunity Fund at Siena, a transformational $1 million gift for our University and our students.
This fund will provide direct support to students with demonstrated financial need, removing barriers that too often stand in the way of full participation in campus life. For example, the funds could be applied toward textbooks or academic supplies, laptops, experiential learning opportunities, travel to and from internships, or immersive experiences. The circumstances will be individually-tailored and may often be the help a student needs to stay on track. When put to work, this gift will ensure that more of our students can take advantage of the moments that will shape their education and their future.
We are deeply grateful to Susan, to the Dake family, and to Stewart’s for their generosity. They have been supporting and strengthening the Siena community through thoughtful gifts of philanthropy since 1990, and I am humbled by their enduring belief in the transformative potential of a Siena education. Their leadership is a powerful reminder that when we invest in our students, it’s an investment in a more just and compassionate future.
Soon, we will gather a small group of campus partners for a discussion on how best to provide support for our students through the Opportunity Funds. With this gift, we will continue to expand opportunity, remove barriers, and ensure that every student has the ability to experience Siena at its fullest.
Peace and all good,
Chuck
