What's the recovery time for a hair transplant? Alexis Valenti '22 isn't a medical student (nor is she in need of a hair transplant), but over the past few months, she's picked up quite a bit through osmosis (recovery takes about a week, and you'll want to avoid physical activity to limit swelling).

The senior marketing major and healthcare management minor has always been drawn to the healthcare industry. This semester, she's been able to blend her two interests through a marketing internship at the Williams Center, a local plastic surgery center in Latham.

Alexis is managing the social media accounts for the center's hair transplant specialist, Dr. Keimun Slaughter, and creates video content and Instagram reels (see below for more information on transplant recovery time). She also develops graphics and images, responds to customer reviews, and helps Dr. Slaughter promote his practice.

Valenti has also used different social media analytics and scheduling tools such as Google Analytics and Hootsuite. In fact, through her social media class at Siena, she's getting certified in Hootsuite.

To familiarize herself with the craft, she occasionally observes a hair transplant procedure from the operating room.

Social media of Dr. Edwin Williams

“If I am making content for this specialty, I have to be able to oversee it and understand what’s involved in a hair transplant. Getting to witness the procedures assists me in creating more authentic content."

Valenti has also assisted Dr. Edwin Williams, the center's facility specialist, with social media content.

“This internship has shown me that working in the healthcare industry is the career path I want to take. I want to continue to help others. This internship exposes me to medical terminology and processes which can assist me in better understanding the field of medicine. I also get to build professional connections in the healthcare field which will be beneficial in the future work that I do.”
