Regeneron Pharmaceuticals is a multi-billion dollar biotechnology company that develops life-transforming medicines to combat serious illnesses. In 2012, the company produced approximately $1.4 billion in revenue. A modest figure compared to its $7.8 billion haul seven years later. The company employees more than 8,000 people in five different locations throughout the U.S. Amal Thomas '22 is hoping to join the payroll next year.

Which department would he join? Well, it depends. And that's what makes Thomas an invaluable intern and a great prospect. Thomas is interested in both computer science and accounting, data analysis and business. He's had the opportunity to explore both careers and sharpen multiple skill sets during his internship, which only bolsters his chances at a full-time position after graduation.

Thomas applied for a supply chain business analyst internship. The computer science major is also pursuing his MBA - it's a dynamic educational blend that perfectly suits the internship. Unsurprisingly, he's caught the eye of his supervisor. Thomas has spent hours one-on-one with his manager, and on multiple occasions, as a project leader, Thomas has presented his work to company directors.

The presentations were "nerve wracking," but Thomas was exposed to critical feedback and given an audience with executives who could influence his career. Ultimately, Thomas would like to reach management level in engineering. He's on the right path. Thomas has learned to use Enterprise, a cloud-based computing model where businesses can access virtualized IT resources. He's learned coding in a fast-paced environment. And perhaps most importantly, he's impressed decision makers at a multi-billion dollar company.

“Seeing both computer science and business together is so rare. Having both together allows you to see the entire picture of an employer. I really enjoy the business side of this internship because I get to interact with people and work on projects.”
