Career and Internship Center, Internships, Pre-Law

If you're not familiar with Rob Reiner, you're likely familiar with some of his work. In the 70s, he starred on the award-winning TV show All in the Family. In the 80s and 90s, he directed many classic films including Stand by Me, When Harry Met Sally..., and A Few Good Men. So what does Reiner have to do with Christina Peppy '25 and her summer internship? For one weekend, Christina's task was to make sure Reiner and his whole family were happy.

Christina interned in the executive director's office at the National Comedy Center in Jamestown, NY, not far from her home in Bemus Point. Located in Lucille Ball's hometown, the Center – which opened in 2018 – chronicles the history of comedy. The Center also features over 50 immersive experiences and exhibits, including a new one this summer – Carl Reiner: Keep Laughing. Carl Reiner, who passed away in 2020 at 98 years old, is Rob Reiner's father.

The Center opened an exhibit in Carl's centennial year to celebrate the life and remarkable career of the actor/comedian, and all members of the Reiner family were invited. It was Christina's job to manage... everything.

More than 30 members of the Reiner family descended on Jamestown for the opening of the exhibit.

"I was in charge of the family: flights, rides, whatever they needed. I planned their schedule, which included the ribbon cutting for the exhibit. The family had a wonderful experience. They wanted to spend more time at the museum. They even came back for an extra day."

Christina's always loved comedy, and she wanted to stay busy during the summer, so she reached out to the Center and scored the internship. She got to participate in several projects from start to finish, including the opening of the Johnny Carson exhibit.

"I got to spend every single day laughing and smiling. What better way to spend the summer?!"

So what does comedy have to do with Christina's career ambition? Potentially not much. But that's the point.

"I'm getting my pre-law certificate, and then I plan to go to law school. I think it's important to try all different internships to see what benefits you. You can learn what you like and don't like. Plus, I'm able to get leadership opportunities that can translate elsewhere. I'll take it!"
