Accounting, School of Business

Hannah Myers G'22 visited Siena while in high school, but not because she wanted to. Catholic Central High School in Troy arranged a tour of the Loudonville campus for its students, though Myers was adamantly opposed to the idea. She was convinced she wanted to leave the Capital Region behind, so she enrolled at SUNY Plattsburgh, and this spring, she graduated with her degree in accounting. Also this spring, she stopped by the Siena campus for the first time in four years. This time because she wanted to.

In May, Myers scored an internship with Ginsberg's Foods, a food distribution service in Hudson, New York. She works in the accounting office, and raves about the environment. Myers says she's treated like family, especially since word got out around that she's working toward her master's in accounting at Siena.

Myers came back to campus this spring for two reasons: to buy a sweatshirt and to take her picture in front of the Siena sign. Four years ago, she was desperate to leave, but this year, she couldn't wait to come home. Her mom graduated from Siena, plus two of her uncles. When it came time to choose a master's program, she didn't look anywhere else. She already completed her first course this summer, and the Siena connection continues to be a blessing at her internship.

As an intern in the accounting department, Myers works on accounts payable, reconciliation, and invoices. On Thursdays this summer, she asked to leave early. The CFO was eager to oblige. Ed Maiejka '81 earned a degree in accounting from Siena, and he was happy to allow Myers the time she needed to get home and online for her Thursday night accounting class at Siena.

Myers' internship was supposed to end in September. Instead, she'll stay on part-time. She's the first intern in the accounting department to parlay the internship into immediate work, and that could transition into full-time work within a year. The CFO noted Myers' work ethic and proficiency. Myers noted the Siena vibe. It took her long enough, but she's glad she found her way back home.

"One of my favorite things about my internship experience at Ginsberg’s Foods is how everyone made me feel welcome. It is a nice feeling to walk in the office and be able to talk to anyone. It doesn't hurt that at least five people I've met at my internship site all graduated from Siena!

I am very excited to be following in the footsteps of my mom and two uncles and attend Siena for my master's degree."
