Siena College’s theatre program has always been a place where collaboration thrives and creativity takes center stage. This fall’s production of Guys and Dolls is particularly significant, marking the first musical since the launch of Siena’s theatre major.
Guys and Dolls tells the story of a New York gambler who is challenged to take a female missionary to Havana, but they fall for each other, and there’s a bet involved, and…you’ll have to see if for yourself.
The production brings together students, faculty and staff from all three of Siena’s schools—underscoring the interdisciplinary spirit of the College.
“Being a part of this production has been an unforgettable experience for me,” said Dahlia White ’25, who is stage manager for guest director AshleySimone Kirchner. “I’ve loved getting to work with the cast and watching them grow from the first rehearsal to opening night. I also loved getting to work alongside the production team full of awesome theatre professionals; I truly learned a lot from them.”
The sense of community extends beyond current students. The cast features John Lynch ‘23, an admissions counselor who during his days as a rugby-playing student never quite found time to perform in a full-scale production. When the theatre team needed an older character for the role of Big Jule, Lynch’s interest in performing led to an offer to audition.
“Even though this is my first time on stage, jumping into this production as an alum has made me feel more connected to Siena than ever,” he said. “It’s been awesome working with the current students and seeing how much talent and energy they bring. We’ve all put in a ton of effort, and we can’t wait to share it with the audience.”
Ella Carter ’25 is also enjoying her first Siena production in the role of Miss Adelaide.
“I felt as welcomed by the community as if I had been involved in many shows before,” said Carter. “It meant a lot to be embraced so warmly. The cast and crew are not only kind but also passionate about their work, making it a joy to collaborate with them.”
Guys and Dolls is running in the Beaudoin Theatre in Foy Hall on the following dates:
- November 15, 16, 21, 22, 23 at 8PM
- November 17 at 3PM
