Every vehicle needs a license plate to look official and the Siena president’s golf cart is no exception. Since the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) now offers plates with the Siena College logo, ordering one for the cart seemed like it would be a nice touch.
But there was a small problem. The DMV only issues plates for officially registered vehicles. A plate could possibly render the cart “road ready” – roads, as in Route 9 or anywhere else in Loudonville someone might care to drive it.
John Lasch, a carpenter in Siena’s Facilities department (above), heard about the issue and wanted to solve it. The result is a custom-made plate featuring the name of Siena’s beloved mascot, Baloo.
Using two-sided Plexiglas, design software and reverse engraving, Lasch got the plate looking very close to DMV standards, while celebrating the Siena brand.
“This was an interesting request,” said Lasch. “It took a few more steps than similar projects but I’m pleased with how it turned out.”
