Choosing a college isn't just about finding the right academic fit, it's about finding a place you are excited to call home seven days a week. While our classrooms are bustling during the week, the fun doesn’t stop when the last Friday class lets out.
Whether it’s packing the Dog Pound on Friday night, bowling with SNL on Saturday, or just chilling in your residence hall with your friends, you’ll never be bored on a weekend on campus. If you're wondering how students spend their free time, here is your official guide to the perfect weekend at Siena University.
1. Thursday Night: Kickstart the Weekend with SEB Coffeehouse
If you want to know where everyone is on a Thursday night, just look for whatever the Student Events Board (SEB) Coffeehouse has planned. Getting involved in campus activities is easy here, and Coffeehouse is the mastermind behind our highly anticipated Thursday night events on campus.
(Pro-tip: Bingo and Stuff-a-Plush are fan favorites. Who doesn’t want to win a free Apple Watch and make their own stuffed animal right on campus?)
2. Hop on the Dog pound Bus and Cheer on Siena Basketball
Once Friday rolls around, you can hop right on the student section bus and head to MVP Arena to cheer on your Saints. The Dog Pound is our official student section for Men's Siena Basketball, with tickets and transportation to all home games completely included.
Prefer to stay on campus? You can also take a short walk over to the UHY Center to check out a Women’s Basketball game! As one of our biggest Siena University clubs, you won’t want to miss this opportunity to deck yourself in green and gold and support a massive part of our campus culture.
3. Residence Hall Life: Lounging and Chilling on Campus
Our lounges in the residence halls are some of the best spots to hang out with friends. Whether it’s hosting movie nights, running video game tournaments, or just staying up late talking, chilling on campus with friends is a classic, low-key way to spend a Friday night.
4. Take an Off-Campus Excursion and Explore Loudonville & Upstate New York
Saturdays are great opportunities to explore around the area. Being located in the heart of Loudonville, NY, there are plenty of shops and restaurants just minutes from campus where you can grab a bite to eat with friends, shop, or just explore around Upstate New York. Check out our guide to what's walkable from campus!
5. Check out Some Saturday Night Entertainment: Siena Night Life (SNL)
If nighttime rolls around and you find yourself looking for something to do, check out SNL! Siena Night Life is Siena’s dedicated program for Saturday night activities that are tons of fun and won’t drain your bank account. Open to all students, SNL is definitely worth checking out for:
-
On-campus crafts and DIY activities
-
Movie watch parties
-
Off-campus trips to plays and professional sporting events
6. Staying Active at the Campus Gym
Whether you’re looking to get up early and be productive or just reset for the week ahead, Sunday is the perfect time to focus on wellness. Our campus gym is entirely free for all students and features multiple floors of fitness equipment, as well as dedicated mats, locker facilities, and a pool for open swim!
7. Have a Study Sesh at Casey’s
If you need to catch up on schoolwork, Casey’s Lounge provides an excellent, collaborative space to study with friends. Best of all, you can fuel your study session by grabbing a premium coffee and a breakfast sandwich from our brand-new Saxby's located right inside!
8. Enjoy Some All-Day Breakfast at Lonnstrom Dining Hall
If you enjoy sleeping in on the weekends, you’re in luck. Lonnstrom Dining Hall serves breakfast all day long on Saturdays and Sundays. From custom omelets to our fresh yogurt bar, bagels, and waffles, there are plenty of options to help you fuel your weekend brunch.
Plan Your Own Weekend as a Saint
What makes weekends as a Saint special is not just the number of things to do—it’s that weekends are your own design. Whether you want to hop on the Dog Pound bus to cheer on the Saints, explore the Capital Region with friends, or just relax and rewind in your dorm, we have options for everyone.
