Siena has been renovating and upgrading the living spaces on campus in phases. Ryan Hall, which houses primarily freshmen, is the latest residence facility to get a glow up.

In time for the start of the new academic year, Ryan Hall received the following upgrades:

  • New flooring installed in the hallways and student rooms
  • Student rooms, hallways and stairwells painted
  • Student room wardrobes modified to increase access and utility
  • Old metal student room doors replaced with new wood doors equipped with new hardware
  • New fire alarm system installed for the entire building
  • New LED lights installed in the hallways and stairwells
  • Old student room light fixtures removed and new LED fixtures installed

The lobby and lounge of Ryan Hall were renovated back in 2019. These renovations, and those made to the Hennepin and Plassmann lounges in 2023, were informed by comments from student focus groups. They met with the design and architecture team, as well as with College staff, to offer inspo and feedback on everything from paint colors to furnishings to flooring.
“The residential experience is essential for our on-campus students. Being able to continue to do renovations is a testament to listening to student voices and making sure they are being heard as we plan major campus projects,” said Adam Casler, dean of students and associate vice president for student life. “Feedback so far from students, parents, and more than a few former Ryan Hall residents who have returned to see the renovations, is overwhelmingly positive.”

Casler said the Student Life team will use Ryan Hall as a model for future residence hall upgrades and renovations.

Katie Szalda '01, director of admissions, noted the importance of residence facilities to students and families in the college search process.

“We're so excited to showcase the renovated Ryan Hall on our tours,” said Szalda. “The upgrades have really made a difference, and we’re hearing positive feedback from visitors.”
