A new Siena graduate has been awarded a scholarship for his graduate studies in accounting.

Nicholas Amodio '20, who earned his bachelor’s degree in accounting last month, earned the merit-based award from the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB). They grant around 150 scholarships annually to students in accredited accounting programs across the United States.

Amodio is from Clifton Park, N.Y., and his aptitude in accounting earned him the nomination from Chester Brearey, Ph.D., C.P.A., associate professor of accounting and director of Siena’s master’s in accounting program.

Amodio said, “I am extremely grateful for the opportunities that Siena has given to me. Coming to this school has truly allowed me to grow as a human being in all aspects. I believe receiving the PCAOB scholarship is reflective of the skills and abilities that Siena has helped me build and expand.”

He will continue his studies at Siena this upcoming year when he begins taking courses in the M.S.A. program. The scholarship money he receives will be put towards his tuition for the program.

In addition, Amodio has begun studying for his C.P.A. exam. If all goes as planned, he will be starting a full-time position with KPMG International in Albany next summer.

Amodio is following in the footsteps of previous Siena winners whom Brearey nominated: Emily Andolina ’19, Julie Magand ’18 and Julia Goeghegan ’17 G'18.

The PCAOB scholarships are funded by regulatory fines that are paid by publicly traded companies for having accounting irregularities discovered during audits.
