A Siena marketing alumna who rose to become a top executive with UPS will be the featured speaker at the College’s 79th annual Commencement on Sunday, May 12 at the Times Union Center.

Kate [Strang] Gutmann ’90 began her stellar career with UPS in 1989 as an intern while earning her bachelor’s degree in marketing. She is now chief sales and solutions officer for the company, and also has business unit responsibility for UPS Capital, a subsidiary that provides supply chain financial, insurance and payment solutions, and The UPS Store, the nation’s largest franchise system of retail shipping, postal, print and business service centers.

Siena will award approximately 860 bachelor’s degrees and 50 master’s degrees at the ceremony, which will begin with an academic procession at 9:45AM. (And yes, May 12 is Mother’s Day!)

Gutmann, a Troy native, will be awarded an honorary doctorate of humane letters. Hers will be the only honorary degree awarded this year.

Paul Commisso ’19 will address his fellow classmates at the ceremony; the vocalist will be announced soon, as will the winner of Siena’s annual Excellence in Teaching Award.

Other Commencement-related events such as the senior awards ceremony, ROTC commissioning and more will be held on the Siena campus on Saturday, May 11.

Sunday’s main Commencement ceremony will be streamed live online on Siena's Facebook page.
