Career and Internship Center

What would it be like to work for CNN in New York City? A dozen Saints went knocking on the door to find out.

On January 8, Career Education and Professional Development secured employer site visits in NYC for 12 students. They spent two hours in the morning at CNN/Warner Media, then visited Horizon Media in the afternoon. Ashley Dwyer '08, assistant director for employer relations, accompanied the students.

The Siena contingent of mainly upperclassmen took full company tours, spoke with hiring managers, and visited with employees and Siena alumni. Both companies advertised exciting internship and full-time opportunities. Specifically, CNN promoted advertising and sales positions, plus opportunities in communications, marketing, and finance. Horizon highlighted brand advertising and strategy roles, as well as positions in accounting and finance.

“The CEPD job site visit to Horizon Media and CNN in the Big Apple was such an amazing experience. I am ecstatic to have attended! As a second semester senior, the hunt for a job is full speed for me, which is why this experience was better than I could have imagined. Both companies had representatives sit with us to explain their mission and culture, and they gave us the opportunity to ask questions. My favorite part was exploring the workspace of both companies. It was an extremely unique opportunity to physically place myself in that environment and imagine working at my dream job!”

"The job site visit is important because it allows you to imagine the career you wish to pursue and to connect with those in that field who you aspire to be. My favorite part was getting to engage with Siena alumni and ask for advice on how to approach applying to internships or landing your dream job. This job site visit made me excited for life post-graduation and made me determined to work in the entertainment field."
