Under Armour dropped the "Plum" last month, a player-exclusive colorway sneaker inspired by two-time WNBA champion Kelsey Plum (and the fruit she shares a name with). Influencer and Saint Valencia Fontenelle-Posson '24, G '25 went shopping for a pair in a strange location.
Name, Image, and Likeness legislation allows collegiate athletes to benefit from their well-earned personal brands. Fontenelle-Posson has amassed 10,000 Instagram followers as a standout on the women's basketball team. Both her game and her following made her an ideal partner to promote the Plums.
"I was connected by my friend who is a videographer and needed a female athlete who played basketball and modeled," Fontenelle-Posson said. "I love Plum's shoes and love her as a player so collectively it was a really cool experience."
Fontenelle-Posson stars in a viral video showcasing the Breakthru 5 "Plum." Kelsey Plum, the point guard for the Las Vegas Aces, debuted the shoe in an August 21 game, and will lace them up for the rest of this season. The shoes feature one-of-a-kind Kelsey Plum fruit stickers to give that authentic fruit feel.
"I thought that the plum shoes were super cool and I really enjoyed the concept of picking up the shoes from the grocery store in the plum section, it was really outside of the box so I loved that! I was just really blessed to have the opportunity!"
