Career and Internship Center

To better serve Siena students who are preparing for internships, careers and grad school, the College has combined operations for a new Career and Internship Center (CIC), effective September 1.

Debra DelBelso, the center’s director, said the merger will provide students with more streamlined “one-stop-shopping” for an array of services to help them prepare for professional life or further education after undergrad. Students of all class years and majors are encouraged to stop in at Foy Hall 203.

“The sooner a student starts using the center’s services, the better prepared they will be by the time they graduate,” said DelBelso. “It’s never too early to start.”

Formerly known as the Career Education and Professional Development office and the Office of Internship programs, the combined CIC offers assistance with resume and cover letter writing; helps curate LinkedIn profiles; gives job interview practice; posts internship and job opportunities and more. More good news: the center’s services don’t end when you graduate. Siena alumni are also welcome to use the CIC as they progress through their career or explore graduate education.

Alicia Pepe, assistant vice president for experiential learning and career development, said the CIC will show students how to round out their education by embracing skill-building experiences outside the classroom.

“The services offered here help students transition into their careers or graduate education by encouraging high impact practices that supplement and support what is learned in class,” she said.

Pepe said the CIC will also help students articulate how their skill sets will benefit potential employers. Hard and soft skills such as critical thinking, communication, teamwork, leadership and equity/inclusion are all in demand, and knowing how to showcase them on an internship or in a job interview can give students a leg up.

Mark your calendars: a celebration of the new team will be held Wednesday, Sept. 29 at 4PM on the Paddock. President Chris Gibson will speak and there will be a chance to meet and greet members of the CIC team.
