“The Txoko Experience. The Secret Culinary Space of the Basques” was screened earlier this month at Cinema Napa Valley, the annual film festival held in California’s famous wine country.

The 50-minute film is a joint effort between Marcela Garcés, Ph.D., associate professor of Spanish, and her husband, filmmaker Yuri Morejon. It focuses on txokos (CHO-kos), or gastronomic societies, found in the Basque Country of northern Spain.

By emphasizing the products and chefs who work with them, the film explores the environment and essence of the Basque Country.

“The Txoko Experience” was screened at Siena earlier this year, with a reception afterwards featuring Basque delicacies. If you missed it, you can catch it at The College of St. Rose on Thursday, Nov. 29 at 7:30 PM in the Touhey Forum.

“We had two successful screenings and Q&As--one at the Charles Krug Winery, the oldest winery in Napa Valley, and another at Farmstead Theater, which sold out. We also participated in a live culinary demonstration inspired by our film. It was a great event, and very well attended. The people in Napa enjoyed the film, as they also love sharing food and wine in community.”
