Career and Internship Center

Instead of the traditional large, one-day career fair, Siena's Career Expo 2023 was a multi-day event held over four days throughout February.

Each day of the Expo featured a different career and focus, allowing students and employers to visit multiple days based on interest and recruiting needs. This multi-industry approach, organized by the Career and Internship Center, clearly displays the numerous opportunities afforded to students, regardless of major.

"After Covid, it was great to return to "normal" however, it was also a great opportunity to put some old traditions to bed and try some new things. Thus, the Career and Internship Center decided to add a new twist to the traditional career fair of the past," said Kristy Luhr, assistant director of the Career and Internship Center. "We wanted to provide an opportunity for students to meet and talk with employers and graduate school representatives, but in a more informal, less intimidating manner.

This has been a welcomed change by both students and organization representatives who have commented on the cozy feel of having the Career Expo in the SSU. The results so far have been great with students and employers both happy with the conversations they're having. We look forward to two more days of Career Expo."

Business was the theme on day one, February 1. Next, STEM and Healthcare fields took center stage. Following those events:

Wednesday, Feb. 15 – Education, Communications, Government, Not-for-Profit

Friday, Feb. 17 – Graduate school, Service options

"The Career Expo offers a fantastic chance for students from all majors to network with companies and develop their professional skills. Being a senior, it's both nerve-wracking and exhilarating looking for jobs, especially so close to graduation! However, I feel well equipped thanks to the guidance from the Career and Internship Center's Career Guide and my CSIS-415 Software Engineering Class. Both have taught me how to create an effective resume and behave in a professional manner when speaking with potential employers. Thanks to the Expo, I was able to distribute my resumes, engage with multiple companies and expand my network on LinkedIn to solidify my presence as a professional, soon-to-be Siena graduate. If you're thinking about attending any future Expo, I highly recommend you do. It's far too invaluable to pass up."
