Tim Hannigan ’08 says the Siena Experience prepared him to take the next step in his education and pursue his chosen career path as an attorney.

“Balancing Siena’s academic and athletic offerings was the greatest lesson in time management that I could ask for and it taught me that if you love what you’re doing you can make it all work,” says Tim. “The practice of law demands time and constant attention. As a volunteer firefighter, my fellow firefighters and I are often called on a moment’s notice to respond to assist people who, generally speaking, may be experiencing the worst day of their lives and had no intention of needing help from firefighters in the first place.”

Siena's Franciscan values of honesty, integrity, humility, and service are guideposts that Tim continues to follow. “I think there’s an inherent goodness in Siena’s Franciscan tradition, whether it’s holding doors, supporting a teammate or classmate, and generally treating others with respect that current students learn and that alumni carry with them throughout their lives,” he adds. “My hope is that I’ve held up my end of that deal and demonstrated those qualities through my own actions as an attorney and volunteer firefighter.”

Tim credits a number of Siena professors, along with coaches he had as a member of the Men’s Lacrosse Team, as influences on his life. “Foremost on any list of the most impactful for me are Dr. Len Cutler (Pre-Law) and Dr. Karen Mahar (American Studies/History).”

Tim’s Education for a Lifetime led him to victory in a significant case with statewide impact at the New York Court of Appeals. But perhaps the most rewarding professional experience is practicing law with his father, Terry.

We thank Tim for keeping the spirit of St. Francis alive as a Saint who doesn’t sit on the sidelines!
