As a University student, you know the importance of having access to the health care you need – when and where you need it.  Siena University also recognizes the importance of a student’s ability to pay for medical expenses when they arise, so that the educational opportunity is not jeopardized.

Accordingly, per Siena University policy, all full-time students must have health insurance coverage for routine and non-emergency care in the Albany, NY, area.

To ensure compliance with this policy
  • All full-time students are automatically enrolled and billed via their Siena student account.
  • Students must complete an on-line waiver verifying alternative health insurance coverage to cancel their enrollment if they have other existing insurance that covers them in the Capital Region.
  • Must be completed each academic year by the posted deadline to opt out of the plan.
  • Once a waiver is completed and approved, the coverage will be cancelled and a refund of the fee will be posted on the student's account.

INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS

All international students attending Siena University full time are required to be enrolled in the student health insurance plan in order to ensure adequate local coverage. International students may not waive the Siena student health insurance plan.

If an international student believes they have a comparable domestic US health insurance plan they may request a review for an exemption from the requirement to purchase the Anthem Siena plan by contacting the Office of Student Life via email at studentlife@siena.edu or phone (518) 783-2328. Exemptions are done on a case by case basis by the Associate Vice President for Student Life/Dean of Students and the Director of Health Services. Their decision is final.
