Captain Thomas J. Bergin Memorial Award

This award is given in honor of Thomas J. Bergin, Siena College class of 1956. While serving in Vietnam, CPT Bergin’s intelligence analysis and skills as a military advisor were the key to the success of a major offensive operation. Through his efforts, South Vietnamese troops were able to maintain contact with their adversaries. CPT Bergin made the ultimate sacrifice when the Viet Cong shot down his aircraft while performing an aerial reconnaissance of a Viet Cong position. In his final act, CPT Bergin earned the Combat Infantry Badge, a Purple Heart, and the Silver Star. In honor of his memory and sacrifice, we award the CPT Thomas Bergin Memorial Award to a senior cadet at Siena College who excels in academics, demonstrates a sense of duty and possesses unimpeachable character.
