The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is required if you want to apply for federal, state, or Siena need-based aid. It’s completely free and the only financial aid application Siena requires.
We recommend you file it as soon as possible after it opens in October to maximize your eligibility.
Here’s how to get started:
Step 1: Create Your FSA ID
- Go to studentaid.gov/fsa-id to create an FSA ID for both the student and one parent (if you're a dependent student). This only takes about 10 minutes.
Step 2: Gather Your Info
You'll need:
- Your Social Security number
- Your driver’s license (if you have one)
- Your and your parent’s federal tax returns (from two years prior)
- Records of untaxed income and assets
Step 3: Go to FAFSA.gov
- Visit fafsa.gov and select “Start a New FAFSA” or “Log In.”
- When prompted, add Siena University to your list of colleges.
Step 4: Complete and Submit
- Fill out the application, double-check for accuracy, and sign using your FSA ID(s).
- Submit early. Siena reviews FAFSA data as it arrives and builds aid packages on a rolling basis.
Step 5: Complete Your NYS TAP Application (New York residents only)
After you submit your FAFSA, you’ll be prompted to complete your New York State TAP application. If you miss that prompt, don’t worry—go directly to www.hesc.ny.gov and complete it there. TAP provides additional state-based financial aid for eligible NY residents, so don’t skip it!
