Alpha Kappa Alpha is the Honor Society of Siena University. The honor society is focused on the Franciscan value of service. Each year, 20-30 students are selected to be inducted into this prestigious honor society.
Eligibility
To be eligible, a student must have met all of the following requirements:
- Completed 54 credit hours at Siena University
- Achieved a minimum index of 3.5-grade point average for each year in attendance (including study abroad and transfer credits)
- Filled out a Degree Application for the upcoming May graduation
- Demonstrated a significant record of involvement in voluntary service activities during the course of their Siena studies
Definition of voluntary service
Siena students engage in service activities both on and off campus. On campus examples include, but are not limited to, serving on Student Senate, Class Council, the President’s Advisory Committees, and more. Off-campus examples include, but are not limited to, Habitat for Humanity, the Mentoring Program, and participating in both direct and indirect service addressing real-world issues such as poverty, homelessness, hunger, and social injustice.
Application process
Eligible students will be invited to submit an online application for consideration to be inducted into Alpha Kappa Alpha.
selection process
A committee of campus representatives will review all applications. The committee is composed of representatives from each school, and staff and administrators from various offices on campus.
When reviewing applications, the committee will consider the following:

A demonstrated commitment to service activities (throughout a student’s undergraduate career)

Impact of service - The committee will look for significant service within the University as well as communities outside of the University

Leadership - Has the student taken a leadership role during any of their listed service activities?

Students will be notified of a decision by mid to late April. If a student has been selected for induction into Alpha Kappa Alpha, further information will be provided on a date, time, and location of the induction ceremony.
