James D’Annibale ’21

Major: Physics
Why do research: “The second I heard you could do summer research I was there. Because that’s huge. The opportunity to work with professors as an undergraduate is ideal.”

Lindsay Hallowell ’21

Major: Nursing
Importance of hands-on learning: “My favorite part of the program so far is having clinicals in so many different locations, whether it has been on a medical surgical floor in the hospital, the operating room, at outpatient primary care or even the labor and delivery unit.”

Nanea Perkins ’21

Major: Chemistry
Athletics at Siena: "Playing on a sports team at Siena has set me up for success because I gained skills that can be used on the court, in the classroom and in a work environment. For example, leadership, team work, and solo work. Lastly, my athletic experience has brought me a lot of amazing things, like the opportunity to travel and see new things."

Lessons learned from Siena: “Two of the big lessons I learned from Siena were to work hard and make sacrifices. I worked hard to get an internship after my sophomore year at another news network (during orientation they told us we had a better chance of getting into Harvard than getting the internship) and had to make sacrifices along the way. I gave up that summer for an unpaid internship, but it was totally worth it! Then, during my senior year, I gave up most weekends to commute to Manhattan for an internship—again, totally worth it.”

Why Siena: “Siena taught me so much, but mostly to be kind. At Siena, you are taught to treat everyone with respect and dignity, regardless of their background. In the classroom, you are faced with real life challenges to practice problem solving, asked to present often to classmates and external panels, and provided organizational skills to stay on track. I am forever grateful for the interpersonal and professional skills I learned at Siena and those skills have molded me into the person I am today.”

The value of a Siena degree: “My education at Siena has given me an interdisciplinary foundation to explore different careers. I have worked as a teacher, bilingual customer representative, and currently as a budding US Diplomat. I constantly reflect on Franciscan values, which have kept me grounded in various aspects of my life.”
