Dr. Sharmeen Azher is a PGY-3 psychiatry resident at Albany Medical Center. She has lived in the Capital District since studying Anthropology and Biology at Union College in Schenectady, NY. She attended graduate school locally and eventually medical school at Albany Medical College. She practices a more integrated approach to mental health, incorporating physical health, coping strategies, social prescribing, and mindfulness into her practice. Her clinical interests include culturally informed mental health care, suicide prevention, neuropsychiatry, medical ethics, and medical education.
Outside of work, Sharmeen likes to spend her time outdoors and is learning to swim (better late than never?). She will usually ask you if you've taken a walk outside and are adequately hydrated. She enjoys exploring and designing South Asian fashion and may consider starting her own boutique someday. She is excited to be a part of the Siena family and is committed to improving student wellness!
