A lifelong resident of Troy, New York, Janice takes special pride in her South Troy roots. She graduated from Catholic Central High School in 1961 and continued to earn a degree in Education from the College of Saint Rose in 1965. Janice began her teaching career in the Troy City School District in 1979. Over the next 26 years, she taught at School 2, School 18, and Doyle Middle School, where she inspired students in the 2nd, 4th, and 6th grades. She and her husband, Joe Strang, raised six children—all proud alumni of Troy High School. Today, Jan and Joe are the proud grandparents of 19 grandchildren, 14 of whom have graduated or are soon to graduate from Troy High School. They are also great-grandparents to eight and growing. Janice has long been a passionate advocate for education. In honor of her steadfast commitment to students and teachers, the Strang Strong Gutmann Foundation is proud to support the Janice Strang Heart of Teaching Scholarship.
