Joane grew up in Smithtown, NY on Long Island. She received a Bachelor of Science degree from Siena in 1980, majoring in Finance. During her junior and senior year, she was an intern at the New York State Assembly.
Upon graduation, Joanne accepted a position as Administrative Assistant to Assemblyman Robert C. Wertz from Smithtown and continued to work for Mr. Wertz for the next five years. In 1985, Joanne started a family with her husband Jack Maloy (Class of 1976). While raising her four children, Joanne served as President of the Mother’s Association and ran successful Gala’s and fundraisers at both the Academy of the Holy Names and St. Gregory’s School. Actively involved in the school’s communities, once her children went off to college she began to give back to the broader community.
Joanne currently serves on the Boards of Siena College and the Community Hospice (which serves seriously ill people and their families during the process of dying and grieving). She is a Trustee at Historic St. Mary’s Church in downtown Albany where she serves as a Lector and Eucharistic Minister. Joanne is a member of the Albany Chapter of Legatus (a group of businesspeople who live out the Faith in their business, personal and professional lives). She is also a volunteer at Mary’s Corner, a program dedicated to providing clothing and baby food for Capital Region immigrants caring for children from newborn up to age four.
Joanne is a Dame in the Order of Malta (one of the oldest Catholic Institutions which provides humanitarian, medical, and social services to those in need). As a member of the Order of Malta, Joanne has made several pilgrimages of Lourdes, France acting as a chaperone on Youth Pilgrimages. Lourdes, France is home to the Grotto, where the Virgin Mary appeared to Bernadette. Inspired by this peaceful place of reflection, Joanne and her family were instrumental in creating the Grotto at Siena.
Joanne met her husband, Jack, in her freshman year at Siena. The two have been happily married for 44 years and have four children together. Their eldest, Elizabeth, is Director of Cross Country/Track and Field at Siena College. Sons John and Brian, in keeping with the family tradition, are currently the 4th generation owners and operators of James H. Maloy, Inc, here in Loudonville. Their youngest daughter, Catherine, is a finance manager of Amazon Web Services Generative AI Service in Seattle, Washington. In addition to their four children, Joanne and Jack have five grandchildren, George, Thomas, Patrick, Blair and Jack, who all live locally.
Joanne can be found walking the Siena campus with her golden retrievers, a morning ritual for over 20 years. She enjoys seeing the new generation of Siena Saints bustling into class (and stopping for the occasional pet). This daily ritual ends with a stop at the Grotto, lighting a candle, a visit to St. Clare and a moment of reflection and gratitude.
