I chose Siena College because it was a great school in the Capital Region and had so much to offer its students. The programs it offered were very attractive to me as well as the campus. Overall, when I took my tour of Siena College it just seemed like the right fit and I thoroughly enjoyed my four years there.
Initially, I had gone to school as a biology major in hopes of one day becoming a doctor. I found out that that path is not for everyone and was greeted by a wonder professor Dr. Robin Flatland. I always had an interest in computers and the power that technology has but was never really exposed to much computer science. Thankfully, Dr. Flatland suggested I take an introductory class and I loved it so much that I changed my major the next semester.
My most meaningful experience at Siena was my relationship with the computer science faculty. They are all experts in their respective fields and really want to see their students succeed. They are willing to help with your questions and challenge you to go above and beyond the minimum.
My favorite course was Software Engineering. This is the computer science capstone course that all students in the major must take to graduate. I found this class very enjoyable because it gave me real world experience in dealing with clients, teammates, and a variety of coding languages.
I will be moving to Austin, Texas to work as a software engineer for IBM. Siena’s liberal arts education really gave me the tools to be a well-rounded individual with the knowledge necessary to excel at such a prominent company. Siena’s facilities, faculty, and student body are things that I attribute to my success and I thank Siena for giving me the best four years of my life.
