Requirements for the Certificate in Community Development (18 Credits)


Social Context: 3 credits


Entry level courses that introduce students to thinking systemically and institutionally about the causes and consequences of the community needs.

Diversity and Community Engagement Skills: 3 credits


Classes designed to create deep introspection, explore personal privilege and biases and engage in dialogue.

Data Collection and Analysis Method: 3 credits


Classes that engage students in a variety of research methods


Classes that engage students in a variety of research methods to help prepare for community engaged research and projects with the community partners.

Research Methods


Students may also meet this requirement by taking their major’s research methods course. Please note that only students in each major can use that major’s course to meet this requirement. These courses are:

Community Development Experience: 9 credits


Classes that give students opportunities to engage and lead in the community for project and research purposes.

Students must complete at least 9 credits from the options listed below, 3 of which must be at the 400-level.
