Workshop Stipend & Expenses

NEH Siena Summer Scholar Stipend

The National Endowment for the Humanities provides a $1,200 stipend per participant to help defray the cost of travel, food, housing and other expenses incurred during the workshop.

NEH Summer Scholars are required to attend all scheduled meetings and to engage fully as professionals in all project activities. Participants who do not complete the full tenure of the project will receive a reduced stipend.

All stipends will be mailed directly to NEH Summer Scholars on or before August 2, 2013.

Siena College Expenses (Housing and Meals)

Holiday Inn Express & Suites Latham, 400 Old Loudon Rd., Latham NY 12110 (2 Queen beds at the rate of $109 per night). Reservations must be made with Holiday Inn by June 23.

Summer Scholars in residence at Siena College can purchase a meal plan for $125. The meal plan will include five buffet style-breakfast (Monday through Friday) and four buffet-style-dinners (Monday through Thursday) in the College’ dining hall. The meal plan also covers the cost of boxed lunches for two of our site visits.

Finally, please be aware that will gather together for two formal dinners on Sunday and Friday. The price of these two dinners is $50 (payable at check-in). In sum, the price of all the meals for Summer Scholars in residence at Siena College is $175.

N.B. Commuting Summer Scholars

NEH Summer Scholars who live locally or opt to stay at the Holiday Inn are expected to participate in all other workshop activities, including meetings that occur after dinner. Commuting Summer Scholars do not need to purchase the meal plan, but they are expected to participate in and pay for the two banquets ($50 to be paid at the time of registration). Commuters can also purchase boxed lunches if necessary for an additional $10.
