Spam: A Real Threat
SPAM - is the use of electronic messaging systems to send unsolicited bulk messages. The most widely recognized form of spam is e-mail spam.
E-mail spam is the practice of sending unwanted e-mail messages, frequently with commercial content, in large quantities to an indiscriminate set of recipients.

ONLY SPAMMERS will ask you for personal information in an e-mail.
NO LEGITIMATE business will request this information in an email.
NEVER supply any personal information in an email, such as:
- Social Security Numbers
- Credit Card Numbers
- Address & Telephone Numbers
ITS will never ask for it
Siena College will never ask for it
Your Bank will never ask for it
The IRS will never ask for it
NO LEGITIMATE organization will ever ask for it
ONLY SPAMMERS will ask for it.
If you receive such a request in an email, it is SPAM.
- DO NOT reply to it
- DO NOT click on any embedded links
- DELETE the e-mail
Spammers also use scare tactics such as:
If you don't respond:
- Your account will be disabled
- Your Bank Account will be compromised
- All your e-mails will be deleted
There is usually a strong sense of urgency associated with these tricks
- You must respond immediately, or else...
- You must respond within 24 hours, or else...
DON'T BELIEVE IT
NO LEGITIMATE organization will ever handle their affairs this way. This includes ITS and Siena College.
