Educational Background

Ph.D. in American Literature, University at Albany - 2001


A specialist in eighteenth and nineteenth-century American literature.  Farnan also serves as Co-Director of the American Studies Department.  She teaches courses in Early American Literature, American Renaissance Literature, and Realistic American Literature. 

Her literary research interests focus upon the narrative strategies employed by nineteenth-century American women writers.  Her latest publication on this topic is forthcoming in a collection of essays, Beyond Uncle Tom’s Cabin (Fairleigh Dickinson 2009). 

Farnan has run a week-long fiction writing workshop in the Adirondacks for the past 14 years.
