Faculty Research Talk
4/10/2013 12:35:00 PM - 4/10/2013 1:25:00 PM
Dr. Christine Dawson, Visiting Assistant Professor of Education, will share her scholarship related to the writing practices of teachers, particularly teachers at the beginning of their careers. She has an ongoing interest in the ways that teachers’ own writing practices, from professional teaching texts to personal writing, shape the ways they think about and engage in classroom writing instruction. This interest led her to join with a group of beginning teachers to form an online writing group. In this talk, Dr. Dawson will focus primarily on the first year of this writing group’s work together, exploring the ways teachers not only invented written texts, but also used writing and talk to invent ways of being (e.g., as teachers, women, partners, mothers, etc.) amidst the challenges of their first year of teaching.
