ACADEMICS
Excel in your academic coursework. (MD and DO programs have mean GPA scores for accepted students around 3.5).
Sign up to take BIOL 490 Prep for Health Professions course (1 credit).
In the spring, interview with the Health Professions Recommendation Committee if you plan to attend medical, dental or optometry schools.
Develop a study plan for your MCAT, DAT, OAT, GRE, etc.
Prepare for and plan to take the MCAT, DAT, OAT, GRE, or other required exams in the spring or early summer following your junior year.
During the fall and early spring semesters, discuss letters of recommendation with faculty who know you well.
Begin drafting, revising, and editing your personal statement. You will need this for the BIOL 490 if you choose to take it and the Health Professions Recommendation Committee.
Matriculated Siena College students have access to Dr. White's Health Professions website that is updated regularly with information about applications, workshops, requirements, interviews with alumni, and advice.
HEALTH CARE EXPERIENCE
Expand your health care-related activities. Professional schools seek students with both breadth and depth of experience in healthcare.
NON-ACADEMIC ACTIVITIES
Continue involvement in student groups and/or community service and volunteer programs.
Leadership roles within a group or organization are also important.
